Chapter 5

1

paV o pisteuwn oti ihsouV estin o cristoV ek tou qeou gegennhtai kai paV o agapwn ton gennhsanta agapa kai ton gegennhmenon ex autou
5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

en toutw ginwskomen oti agapwmen ta tekna tou qeou otan ton qeon agapwmen kai taV entolaV autou thrwmen
5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3

auth gar estin h agaph tou qeou ina taV entolaV autou thrwmen kai ai entolai autou bareiai ouk eisin
5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

oti pan to gegennhmenon ek tou qeou nika ton kosmon kai auth estin h nikh h nikhsasa ton kosmon h pistiV hmwn
5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith.

tiV estin o nikwn ton kosmon ei mh o pisteuwn oti ihsouV estin o uioV tou qeou
5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

outoV estin o elqwn di udatoV kai aimatoV ihsouV o cristoV ouk en tw udati monon all en tw udati kai tw aimati kai to pneuma estin to marturoun oti to pneuma estin h alhqeia
5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, [even] Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

oti treiV eisin oi marturounteV en tw ouranw o pathr o logoV kai to agion pneuma kai outoi oi treiV en eisin
5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

kai treiV eisin oi marturounteV en th gh to pneuma kai to udwr kai to aima kai oi treiV eiV to en eisin
5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9

ei thn marturian twn anqrwpwn lambanomen h marturia tou qeou meizwn estin oti auth estin h marturia tou qeou hn memarturhken peri tou uiou autou
5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

o pisteuwn eiV ton uion tou qeou ecei thn marturian en eautw o mh pisteuwn tw qew yeusthn pepoihken auton oti ou pepisteuken eiV thn marturian hn memarturhken o qeoV peri tou uiou autou
5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

kai auth estin h marturia oti zwhn aiwnion edwken hmin o qeoV kai auth h zwh en tw uiw autou estin
5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12

o ecwn ton uion ecei thn zwhn o mh ecwn ton uion tou qeou thn zwhn ouk ecei
5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13

tauta egraya umin toiV pisteuousin eiV to onoma tou uiou tou qeou ina eidhte oti zwhn ecete aiwnion kai ina pisteuhte eiV to onoma tou uiou tou qeou
5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

kai auth estin h parrhsia hn ecomen proV auton oti ean ti aitwmeqa kata to qelhma autou akouei hmwn
5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15

kai ean oidamen oti akouei hmwn o an aitwmeqa oidamen oti ecomen ta aithmata a hthkamen par autou
5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16

ean tiV idh ton adelfon autou amartanonta amartian mh proV qanaton aithsei kai dwsei autw zwhn toiV amartanousin mh proV qanaton estin amartia proV qanaton ou peri ekeinhV legw ina erwthsh
5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin [which is] not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17

pasa adikia amartia estin kai estin amartia ou proV qanaton
5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

18

oidamen oti paV o gegennhmenoV ek tou qeou ouc amartanei all o gennhqeiV ek tou qeou threi eauton kai o ponhroV ouc aptetai autou
5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19

oidamen oti ek tou qeou esmen kai o kosmoV oloV en tw ponhrw keitai
5:19 [And] we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20

oidamen de oti o uioV tou qeou hkei kai dedwken hmin dianoian ina ginwskwmen ton alhqinon kai esmen en tw alhqinw en tw uiw autou ihsou cristw outoV estin o alhqinoV qeoV kai h zwh aiwnioV
5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21

teknia fulaxate eautouV apo twn eidwlwn amhn
5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
