Chapter 106

Praise¹⁶ ye the LORD. O give thanks⁵⁴ unto the LORD; for [he is] good: for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

Who can utter¹⁷ the mighty acts of the LORD? [who] can shew forth⁵⁵ all his praise?

Blessed [are] they that keep⁶ judgment, [and] he that doeth⁶ righteousness at all times.

Remember³ me, O LORD, with the favour [that thou bearest unto] thy people: O visit³ me with thy salvation;

That I may see² the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice² in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory⁹⁹ with thine inheritance.

We have sinned¹ with our fathers, we have committed iniquity,⁵² we have done wickedly.⁵²

Our fathers understood⁵² not thy wonders¹² in Egypt; they remembered¹ not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked⁵⁵ [him] at the sea, [even] at the Red sea.

Nevertheless he saved⁵⁵ them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.⁵³

He rebuked⁴ the Red sea also, and it was dried up:⁴ so he led⁵⁵ them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

And he saved⁵⁵ them from the hand of him that hated⁶ [them], and redeemed⁴ them from the hand of the enemy.⁶

And the waters covered¹⁷ their enemies: there was not one of them left.⁸

Then believed⁵⁵ they his words; they sang⁴ his praise.

They soon¹⁴ forgat¹ his works; they waited¹⁴ not for his counsel:

But lusted¹⁰¹ exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted¹⁷ God in the desert.

And he gave⁴ them their request; but sent¹⁷ leanness into their soul.

They envied¹⁷ Moses also in the camp, [and] Aaron the saint of the LORD.

The earth opened⁴ and swallowed up⁴ Dathan, and covered¹⁷ the company of Abiram.

And a fire was kindled⁴ in their company; the flame burned up¹⁷ the wicked.

They made⁴ a calf in Horeb, and worshipped¹⁰¹ the molten image.

Thus they changed⁵⁵ their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth⁶ grass.

They forgat¹ God their saviour,⁵⁶ which had done⁶ great things in Egypt;

Wondrous works¹² in the land of Ham, [and] terrible things¹² by the Red sea.

Therefore he said⁴ that he would destroy⁵³ them, had not Moses his chosen stood¹ before him in the breach, to turn away⁵³ his wrath, lest he should destroy⁵³ [them].

Yea, they despised⁴ the pleasant land, they believed⁵² not his word:

But murmured¹¹ in their tents, [and] hearkened¹ not unto the voice of the LORD.

Therefore he lifted up⁴ his hand against them, to overthrow⁵³ them in the wilderness:

To overthrow⁵³ their seed also among the nations, and to scatter¹⁵ them in the lands.

They joined¹¹ themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate⁴ the sacrifices of the dead.⁵

Thus they provoked [him] to anger⁵⁵ with their inventions: and the plague brake in⁴ upon them.

Then stood up⁴ Phinehas, and executed judgment:¹⁷ and [so] the plague was stayed.¹¹

And that was counted¹¹ unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

They angered⁵⁵ [him] also at the waters of strife, ⁴⁸⁰⁹ so that it went ill⁴ with Moses for their sakes:

Because they provoked⁵² his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly¹⁷ with his lips.

They did not destroy⁵² the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded¹ them:

But were mingled¹⁰¹ among the heathen, and learned⁴ their works.

And they served⁴ their idols: which were a snare unto them.

Yea, they sacrificed⁴ their sons and their daughters unto devils,

And shed⁴ innocent blood, [even] the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed¹⁴ unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted⁴ with blood.

Thus were they defiled⁴ with their own works, and went a whoring⁴ with their own inventions.

Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled⁴ against his people, insomuch that he abhorred¹⁷ his own inheritance.

And he gave⁴ them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated⁶ them ruled⁴ over them.

Their enemies⁶ also oppressed⁴ them, and they were brought into subjection¹¹ under their hand.

Many times did he deliver⁵⁵ them; but they provoked⁵⁵ [him] with their counsel, and were brought low⁴ for their iniquity.

Nevertheless he regarded⁴ their affliction, when he heard² their cry:

And he remembered⁴ for them his covenant, and repented¹¹ according to the multitude of his mercies.

He made⁴ them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.⁶

Save⁵⁴ us, O LORD our God, and gather¹⁶ us from among the heathen, to give thanks⁵³ unto thy holy name, [and] to triumph⁹⁹ in thy praise.

Blessed⁷ [be] the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say,¹ Amen. Praise¹⁶ ye the LORD.
