Song of Solomon 8 | King James Bible |
Chapter 1 | |
| The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw1 concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah. |
| Hear,3 O heavens, and give ear,54 O earth: for the LORD hath spoken,14 I have nourished14 and brought up31 children, and they have rebelled1 against me. |
| The ox knoweth1 his owner,6 and the ass his master's crib: [but] Israel doth not know,1 my people doth not consider.110 |
| Ah sinful6 nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers,56 children that are corrupters:56 they have forsaken1 853 the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger,14 they are gone away8 backward. |
| Why should ye be stricken93 any more? ye will revolt more and more:55 the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. |
| From the sole of the foot even unto the head [there is] no soundness in it; [but] wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed,1 neither bound up,27 neither mollified27 with ointment. |
| Your country [is] desolate, your cities [are] burned7 with fire: your land, strangers5 devour6 it in your presence, and [it is] desolate, as overthrown by strangers.5 |
| And the daughter of Zion is left8 as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged7 city. |
| Except the LORD of hosts had left52 unto us a very small remnant, we should have been1 as Sodom, [and] we should have been like1 unto Gomorrah. |
| Hear3 the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear54 unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah. |
| To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith4 the LORD: I am full1 of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight1 not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. |
| When ye come4 to appear9 before me, who hath required14 this at your hand, to tread2 my courts? |
| Bring53 no more55 vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling2 of assemblies, I cannot away with;4 [it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting. |
| Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth:1 they are a trouble unto me; I am weary8 to bear2 [them]. |
| And when ye spread forth15 your hands, I will hide55 mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many55 prayers, I will not hear:6 your hands are full1 of blood. |
| Wash3 you, make you clean;100 put away54 the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease3 to do evil;53 |
| Learn3 to do well;53 seek3 judgment, relieve16 the oppressed, judge3 the fatherless, plead3 for the widow. |
| Come3 now, and let us reason together,11 saith4 the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white55 as snow; though they be red55 like crimson, they shall be as wool. |
| If ye be willing4 and obedient,1 ye shall eat4 the good of the land: |
| But if ye refuse17 and rebel,1 ye shall be devoured29 with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken14 [it]. |
| How is the faithful12 city become an harlot!6 it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged4 in it; but now murderers.18 |
| |
| Thy princes [are] rebellious,6 and companions of thieves: every one loveth6 gifts, and followeth6 after rewards: they judge4 not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come4 unto them. |
| Therefore saith7 the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease11 me of mine adversaries, and avenge11 me of mine enemies:6 |
| And I will turn55 my hand upon thee, and purely purge away4 thy dross, and take away55 all thy tin: |
| And I will restore55 thy judges6 as at the first, and thy counsellors6 as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called,11 The city of righteousness, the faithful12 city. |
| Zion shall be redeemed11 with judgment, and her converts6 with righteousness. |
| And the destruction of the transgressors6 and of the sinners [shall be] together, and they that forsake6 the LORD shall be consumed.4 |
| For they shall be ashamed4 of the oaks which ye have desired,1 and ye shall be confounded4 for the gardens that ye have chosen.1 |
| For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth,6 and as a garden that hath no water. |
| And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn1 together, and none shall quench18 [them]. |
