Isaiah 20 | King James Bible |
Chapter 21 | |
| The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through;2 [so] it cometh6 from the desert, from a terrible12 land. |
| A grievous vision is declared90 unto me; the treacherous dealer6 dealeth treacherously,6 and the spoiler6 spoileth.6 Go up,3 O Elam: besiege,3 O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.52 |
| Therefore are my loins filled1 with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me,1 as the pangs of a woman that travaileth:6 I was bowed down8 at the hearing2 [of it]; I was dismayed8 at the seeing2 [of it]. |
| My heart panted,1 fearfulness affrighted14 me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned1 into fear unto me. |
| Prepare2 the table, watch2 in the watchtower, eat,2 drink:2 arise,3 ye princes, [and] anoint3 the shield. |
| For thus hath the Lord said1 unto me, Go,3 set54 a watchman,18 let him declare55 what he seeth.4 |
| And he saw1 a chariot [with] a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, [and] a chariot of camels; and he hearkened52 diligently with much heed: |
| And he cried,4 A lion: My lord, I stand6 continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set12 in my ward whole nights: |
| And, behold, here cometh6 a chariot of men, [with] a couple of horsemen. And he answered4 and said,4 Babylon is fallen,1 is fallen;1 and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken14 unto the ground. |
| O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard1 of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared52 unto you. |
| The burden of Dumah. He calleth6 to me out of Seir, Watchman,6 what of the night? Watchman,6 what of the night? |
| The watchman6 said,1 The morning cometh,1 and also the night: if ye will enquire,4 enquire3 ye: return,3 come.3 |
| The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge,4 O ye travelling companies6 of Dedanim. |
| The inhabitants6 of the land of Tema brought52 water to him2 that was thirsty, they prevented14 with their bread him that fled.6 |
| For they fled1 from the swords, from the drawn7 sword, and from the bent7 bow, and from the grievousness of war. |
| For thus hath the Lord said1 unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:1 |
| And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished:4 for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken14 [it]. |
