Chapter 26

In that day shall this song be sung⁹³ in the land of Judah; We have a strong city; salvation will [God] appoint⁴ [for] walls and bulwarks.

Open³ ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth⁶ the truth may enter in.⁴

Thou wilt keep⁴ [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed⁷ [on thee]: because he trusteth⁷ in thee.

Trust³ ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH [is] everlasting strength:

For he bringeth down⁵² them that dwell⁶ on high; the lofty¹² city, he layeth it low;⁵⁵ he layeth it low,⁵⁵ [even] to the ground; he bringeth⁵⁵ it [even] to the dust.

The foot shall tread it down,⁴ [even] the feet of the poor, [and] the steps of the needy.

The way of the just [is] uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh¹⁷ the path of the just.

Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited¹⁴ for thee; the desire of [our] soul [is] to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.

With my soul have I desired¹⁴ thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early:¹⁷ for when thy judgments [are] in the earth, the inhabitants⁶ of the world will learn¹ righteousness.

Let favour be shewed⁹⁰ to the wicked, [yet] will he not learn¹ righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly,¹⁷ and will not behold⁴ the majesty of the LORD.

LORD, [when] thy hand is lifted up,¹ they will not see:⁴ [but] they shall see,⁴ and be ashamed⁴ for [their] envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour⁴ them.

LORD, thou wilt ordain⁴ peace for us: for thou also hast wrought¹ all our works in us.

O LORD our God, [other] lords beside thee have had dominion¹ over us: [but] by thee only will we make mention⁵⁵ of thy name.

[They are] dead,⁵ they shall not live;⁴ [they are] deceased, they shall not rise:⁴ therefore hast thou visited¹ and destroyed⁵⁵ them, and made all their memory to perish.¹⁷

Thou hast increased¹ the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased¹ the nation: thou art glorified:⁸ thou hadst removed [it] far¹⁴ [unto] all the ends of the earth.

LORD, in trouble have they visited¹ thee, they poured out¹ a prayer [when] thy chastening [was] upon them.

Like as a woman with child, [that] draweth near⁵⁵ the time of her delivery,² is in pain,⁴ [and] crieth out⁴ in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD.

We have been with child,¹ we have been in pain,¹ we have as it were brought forth¹ wind; we have not wrought⁴ any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants⁶ of the world fallen.⁴

Thy dead⁵ [men] shall live,⁴ [together with] my dead body shall they arise.⁴ Awake⁵⁴ and sing,¹⁶ ye that dwell⁶ in dust: for thy dew [is as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out⁵⁵ the dead.

Come,³ my people, enter³ thou into thy chambers, and shut³ thy doors about thee: hide³ thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.⁴

For, behold, the LORD cometh out⁶ of his place to punish² the inhabitants⁶ of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose¹⁴ her blood, and shall no more cover¹⁷ her slain.⁷
