Jonah 2 | King James Bible |
Chapter 3 | |
| And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,2 |
| Arise,3 go3 unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach3 unto it the preaching that I bid6 thee. |
| So Jonah arose,4 and went4 unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. |
| And Jonah began55 to enter2 into the city a day's journey, and he cried,4 and said,4 Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.12 |
| So the people of Nineveh believed55 God, and proclaimed4 a fast, and put on4 sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. |
| For word came4 unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose4 from his throne, and he laid55 his robe from him, and covered17 [him] with sackcloth, and sat4 in ashes. |
| And he caused [it] to be proclaimed55 and published4 through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying,2 Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste4 any thing: let them not feed,4 nor drink4 water: |
| But let man and beast be covered101 with sackcloth, and cry4 mightily unto God: yea, let them turn4 every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands. |
| Who can tell6 [if] God will turn4 and repent,8 and turn away1 from his fierce anger, that we perish4 not? |
| And God saw4 their works, that they turned1 from their evil way; and God repented11 of the evil, that he had said14 that he would do2 unto them; and he did1 [it] not. |
